HOSTING MIGRATION

WordPress hosting migration into Care

Move the website into the Rescue 404 managed hosting environment, then start Care so updates, backups, and monitoring can actually run. Standard migrations are included with eligible Care enrollment; complex migrations are reviewed. We do not host or migrate email.

WHEN MIGRATION IS REQUIRED

Care does not run on shared or cheap hosting

Eligible WordPress and WooCommerce Care Plans normally host with us. If limited access, resource caps, or unrestorable backups block Care workflows, migration is the gate — not a surprise fee after you sign up. For the technical why, read the shared hosting explainer.

SCOPE

What we migrate

Preserve the site. Coordinate the cutover. Website only — we do not host or migrate email.

  • Files & database

WordPress files, uploads, and database moved with a written cutover plan.

  • DNS cutover

Coordinated DNS changes with a clear go-live window — honest about brief propagation risk, not a fake zero-downtime SLA.

  • SSL

Certificates reissued or remapped on the new environment so browsers stay secure.

  • Email stays with you

We do not host or migrate email. Keep Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, or your current mail provider; we leave MX alone during the website move.

  • Redirects &

Critical URLs, forms, and admin access verified after cutover — Care coverage starts after this verification.

PROCESS

From quote to Care enrollment

Migration is a project. Care is the ongoing plan after the site is eligible.

1

Assess complexity

We review the current host, access level, and site complexity. Standard migrations are included with eligible Care enrollment; complex factors may need a separate quote.

2

Prep & backup

Baseline backups, credentials via secure share (WordPress admin typical; SFTP for larger sites), and a cutover plan you approve before DNS moves.

3

Staging / cutover

Build on our managed environment, test, then cut DNS when you are ready.

4

Post-migrate verification

SSL, forms, admin, critical pages, and hosting access confirmed. Normal Care coverage starts after this verification passes.

5

Care continues

Owner is on Care Maintain, Manage, or Protect with managed hosting included — ongoing maintenance on the verified stack.

STANDARD VS COMPLEX

Included when standard. Reviewed when complex.

Standard migration into our managed environment is included with eligible Care enrollment when criteria are met. Potentially complex migrations are reviewed and may be separately quoted. Managed hosting itself has no separate standard charge. We do not host or migrate email.

  • Standard: single WordPress install, WooCommerce OK, reasonable size, normal plugins/themes, standard DNS/SSL, usable access
  • Typically migratable with a usable WordPress admin login; larger sites may also need (S)FTP
  • Complex factors (Multisite, huge media/Woo history, custom server deps, broken installs, difficult access) → review / possible quote
  • Normal Care coverage and response targets start only after onboarding / migration verification
  • Do not cancel your old hosting until the migrate is complete and verified
  • Website migration does not include email, mailboxes, or unrelated hosting services unless specifically stated

Standard / included

  • Normal single WordPress installation
  • WooCommerce is okay
  • Reasonable site / database size
  • Normal plugins and themes
  • Standard DNS change
  • Normal SSL setup
  • Existing host provides usable WordPress / SFTP / control-panel access
  • No unusual server dependencies

Potentially complex / review

  • WordPress Multisite
  • Very large database or media library
  • Huge WooCommerce order / customer history
  • Custom server software
  • Redis or custom caching dependencies
  • Custom cron / background workers
  • Reverse proxies or custom CDN architecture
  • Multiple interconnected sites
  • Broken or partially corrupted installation
  • Difficult or incomplete host access
  • Extremely old environment requiring remediation before migration
  • Significant DNS complexity

Typically we can migrate a site with a usable WordPress admin login. For larger sites we may also need (S)FTP or equivalent file access, plus cooperative control-panel access from the existing host.

Normal Care coverage and response targets start only after the site passes onboarding / migration verification. That keeps a clean boundary between migration work and ongoing maintenance.

WHO SIGNS

The site owner enrolls in Care

Migration and Care are contracted with the website owner. If a designer introduced you, they stay the design point of contact — they do not become your hosting company.

Not a redesign — and not email

We preserve the site you have. Theme rebuilds, new features, and conversion redesigns are separate quotes. We do not host mailboxes or migrate email — website hosting migration is website-only.

MIGRATION FAQ

Downtime, cost, Care — and email boundaries

Honest answers before you request a quote. We do not host or migrate email.

How much downtime should I expect? +
We plan to minimize downtime with prep on the destination host before DNS cutover. Brief DNS propagation windows are normal. We do not promise a zero-downtime SLA.
Do you migrate or host email? +
No. We do not host mailboxes or migrate email. Keep your mail with Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, or another provider. During a website move we leave MX alone so mail keeps pointing at your provider. If mail currently lives only on the shared host you are leaving, arrange a mail provider yourself before cutover — that is outside our migration scope.
How long does a migration take? +
Depends on site size, plugin stack, and access quality. Standard included migrations follow the onboarding timeline we confirm at enrollment. Complex migrations get a written timeline with the review or quote — not a one-size guess on a sales page.
Is migration included in Care? +
Standard migration into our managed environment is included with eligible Care enrollment when the site meets standard criteria. Potentially complex migrations are reviewed and may be separately quoted. Normal Care coverage starts only after the site passes onboarding / migration verification.
What access do you need? +
Typically a usable WordPress admin login is enough to migrate. For larger sites we may also need (S)FTP or equivalent file access, plus cooperative control-panel access from the existing host.
What if I am still on shared hosting? +
That is exactly when this page applies. Care is not available on traditional shared hosting. Migrate into our managed environment (standard migrate included with eligible Care when criteria are met), then Care coverage begins after verification.

Request a Care / migrate review

Tell us the site URL and current host. We assess whether migration is standard (included with eligible Care) or needs a complex review — then confirm onboarding next steps.
